New Hampshire Bill SB438 Passes the House ED&A Committee

On Tuesday, April 12th, the New Hampshire House Executive Departments and Administration (ED&A) voted in favor of passing bill SB438 as amended, legislation establishing state procurement policies intended to promote the use of American materials.

SB438 is crucial to steel fabricators in New Hampshire as it will level the playing field to allow domestic fabricators to reasonably bid on publically-funded construction projects — think schools, hospitals, parking garages, etc. Without this legislation, steel fabricators in New Hampshire will be forced to continue bidding on smaller and smaller private jobs — often with larger fabricators bidding on jobs that smaller fabricators do because they have to.

The next step is the New Hampshire House of Representatives. SB438 is on the agenda to be heard on Thursday, April 21st — a quickly approaching deadline. During this session, representatives on all sides of the Bill will be able to debate in its favor or against it.

Now more than ever, SFNE needs the help of its members and supporters of our Buy American Effort. Contacting representatives in New Hampshire and explaining the importance of this legislation, its impacts, and urging their support is imperative to SB438’s passage.
